There are two Minolta lenses with the same specs. The old version and the new. While both are considered good, the newer does not have the traditional all metal build of the classic lens and it is mainly plastic. Some even prefer the new to the old for the weight difference. In my personal view the older lens is better optically, but not by much. The build quality however makes a big difference to me.

The old version is built like the beercan, that is, solid metal construction and similar wonderful image quality. This is an awkward range for a APS crop camera but it will appeal to some. Considering the price to performance ratio, you have a real winner.
